Print out these instructions and the question pages that follow to do your work on. 

 

 

I. Click here to find information about the art movement known as Surrealism, the artists who were part of this movement, and samples of their work.

 

 

When you arrive at the website:

  • Type 'Surrealism' in the Search Box in the left margin. 

  • click on GO

  • choose a sample (picture) of a Surrealist artists work

  • click on the sample to see more information

  • continue this process to study the pictures on these pages

  • When you have found a picture that appeals to you, write down the title and the name of the artists who created it.

 

The instructions that follow will help you to answer questions 3 and 4. 

 

 

2. To answer questions 3 and 4:

  • Clicking on the word 'Artist' in the left margin to look through the list of artists names.

  • Click on the name of the artist whose work you explored in #1.

  • Click on the word 'Biography' under the artists' picture in the left margin.

  • use the information you find to answer questions 3 and 4.

Section C: Projects 1

Thumb Nail Sketches 

13. To complete this project you will:                                                        (15 marks)

  • select one of the two 'works of art' you used to complete  Question 11,

  • ask your teacher for a 18" x 24" piece of drawing paper,

  • use a pencil (and ruler) to frame the drawing surface with a 1 cm. border.

  • now divide the area, within the frame, into 6 equal shapes,

  • within each shape you have created, complete a thumb nail sketch of the work of art you have chose for question 11.

  • Use a different media to complete each sketch. (6 different media)

Media: pencil, charcoal, conte, crayon, pencil crayon, watercolor, acrylic, etc.

Section C: Projects 2

The Sincerest Form of Flattery

 

14. You will now recreate the work of art on which you based the previous studies. Do your work on a 18" x 24" surface. The media you use for this project is up to you. (25 marks)
